The four freshmen members of the Crossroads Cross Country team excelled at the Pre-Regional D4-60 event held at Beal City on Saturday, Oct. 24.

Running among teams from Beal City, Montabella, Marion, Northern McBain Christian, Vestaburg and White Cloud, Crossroads flew to gaining both personal record times and all four qualifying for the regional meet held at Shepherd on Friday, Oct 30.

The meet was met with a crisp and cool morning, but periods of sunshine made running conditions perfect! The course was on varied grass and wooded terrain that included curves, hills and flat areas.

Amelia Thompson led the way from the start and crossed the finish line in overall 1st place with a time of 20:32, quite a considerable gap ahead of 2nd place finish at 22:07.

Kaitlin Buys, 16th overall earned her season PR with a time of 25:29.
Kaitlin earned 4th place for regional qualification.

Samara Turner, 18th overall, also earned her season PR at 25:50. This was Samara’s first race in the 25 minute zone! Samara earned 6th place for regional qualification.

Jackie Cole, 19th overall, earned her season PR with a first race time in the 25 minute zone, crossing the finish at 25:53. Jackie’s 7th place qualification wrapped up all four Crossroads members qualifying to attend the Regional event.

Family members for each Crossroads runner attended and completely became excited to witness this amazing event. Having the support of families made my heart swell with happiness and I know it meant the world to each of my girls.

There was not a timing clock visible at the finish, so as each girl crossed, I checked my stop watch. When Amelia crossed, I couldn’t stop smiling. I was so proud of her. She is a dream to coach. She goes out and always does her best. She is 100% supportive of her teammates. She cooled down and came to the finish area to support her team and others as well.

As Kaiti crossed the finish line, I had to double check my stopwatch and did the same with Samara and Jackie. Kaitlin dropped from 25:56 PR to 25:29. Samara 26:43 to 25:50 PR and Jackie Cole 26:32 to 25:53 PR! Each a huge gain. As I gathered the girls to give them their unofficial times, I had difficulties containing my joy and excitement. Their smiles and excitement were worth it all.
