After over a year of work, Casey Gabalis’s quest to break thirty minutes in a cross country race came down to the final hundred meters. As the seconds ticked off the clock, the junior Cougar from Crossroads Charter Academy shifted gears and flew across the finish line with time to spare, finishing in 29:53 as he pumped his fist in triumph.
Also competing for the Cougars were Caleb Buys and Xander Wahl. Just hours after returning from a family trip to New York, Buys clocked in with a personal-best time of 22:52, while Wahl finished in 24:49.
The Cougars were two runners short of having a team score, but look to put the whole squad together when they travel to Walkerville to begin West Michigan D League action.
