Angell, Crossroads enjoying an impressive stretch

BIG RAPIDS — It’s been a good season for Crossroads Charter /Academy and players like junior Allie Angell, who continues to have impressive performances.

In Thursday’s CCA 50-15 win over Bear Lake, Angell led CCA with 19 points followed by Mackenzie Cole (13) and Jacy Carlson (8).

After a game last week, Angell said teamwork has bene a key for her team.

“We’ve been working on rebounding in practice and coach has ben pushing on us for rebounding,” she said. “I’ve been getting more comfortable the more games I’ve been playing. In practices, we’ve been using the shooting gun more and my shots have been falling.”

Angell and her teammates have been also focusing on defense.

“Moving your feet and being able to find a person,” Angell said, is critical toward being effective on defense.

Crossroads is 12-7 overall and 10-5 in the West Michigan D League. Bear Lake is 0-12 and 0-19. The regular season ends at Marion on Feb. 27.

It’s Angell’s third year on varsity and the Cougars have already tripled their win total from a year ago.

“A lot of our players from last year have gotten more comfortable and older and more experienced,” she said. “That’s been helpful.

“We need to start taking more shots and be looking down low and feed it to the post. We could improve on that a lot more.”
