CCA senior hopeful of banner basketball season

BIG RAPIDS – Cameron Carnes is a senior for Crossroads’ Charter Academy and is expected to play a key role this season for coach Rusty Fullerton’s Cougars.

He’s been on the varsity four years. He was the first person off the bench last season for a CCA team which was state quarterfinalists, West Michigan D League, district and regional champs.

“My role was to play key defense and be there for rebounds,” Carnes said. “I was a good shooter. (This year) I’ll take on some other roles. I’ll be driving to the basket more. I’m a pretty decent shooter.

“I’m a good defender. I steal the ball or don’t let them get past me.”

Carnes also plays soccr and got in as much basketball as possible during the offseason. The Cougars have a new coach with Fullerton.

“Things are going pretty well,” Carnes said. “We just have to come every day ready for work.”

He’s hopeful the team can be just as successful this season despite graduating some key players.
