EVART — Kelci Elder picked an ideal time to score her career high on Wednesday.

The Evart junior netted 25 points in leading her team to a 50-10 nonleague girls basketball win over Crossroads Charter Academy.

“I got the rebounds and put the shots back up,” Elder said. “We’re doing all right but there’s two games we should have won.”

Elder helped the Wildcats to a 14-2 lead after the first quarter and 37-5 advantage at halftime. It was a sluggish offensive second half for both teams.

Angela Gibbins drove for a layup at 6:05 of the fourth for a 42-7 Evart lead. Kara Henry later netted a 3-pointer for a 47-9 Wildcats advantage.

“We came out and played well defensively,” Evart coach Paul Higgins said. “We moved well. We anticipated passing lanes a little better. Overall it was a good effort on both ends of the floor”

Henry had 11 points while Kalyee Ladd added six and Hannah Wetters had five for the Wildcats. Allie Angell had four points for Crossroads (0-5).

“We’re not executing offensively,” Crossroads coach Jason Kostecki said. “We’re struggling at times to execute defensively. We’re in the learning process. We’re young and we’re inexperienced. Evart’s a strong physical team. Believe it or not, the score nay not indicate it. But we’re improving.”

Evart (2-3) snapped a three-game losing streak which included a 74-39 loss to Chippewa Hills on Tuesday.
